Join us as science and history come alive in our “living laboratory!” No experience is necessary to participate in these fun and fast-moving S.T.E.A.M. (science technology, engineering, art, and math) camps. For students currently in grades K-5, unless otherwise noted. Campers must bring lunches, and snacks if desired. Become a family member of Edison Ford and receive discounted registration!
- September 23rd • Mechanical Makers & Builders • Campers explore simple machines as they learn about mechanical advantage in this camp. Each activity highlights the power of one simple machine—for example, the catapult challenge focuses on using the mighty lever!
- October 13th • The Spooky Science of Chemistry • An Edison Ford tradition! Campers become mad scientists as they learn how to make lava lamps, glowing slime, and more! This spooky camp leverages the lessons of chemistry to enhance the holiday fun.
- November 24-26 • Robotics Crash Course • Campers learn about robotics and code as they tackle daily robotics challenges. Members of the Edison Ford Robotics teams will be on-hand to demonstrate their competition robots and assist campers on their STEAM journey.
- December 22-23 • Space, Rockets, and the Science of Flight • Campers learn about the physics of rockets as they explore Newtons Laws of Motion and the solar system. A scale model of the planets is created– using the entire length of the Edison Ford Winter Estates! As campers are learning about the universe, they will also be designing their own water rocket to be launched on the last day of camp.
- December 29-30 • Rollercoaster Engineering • Campers explore energy and Newton’s Laws of Motion through the design of roller coasters. Campers design marble rollercoasters with marbles of various volume and mass to learn about kinetic and potential energy. The camp finishes with LEGO coaster as campers design the cars that roll on the track.
- January 2 • Engineering Toys Workshop • Campers learn the science behind simple toys, and what gyroscopes and tops have in common. With the help of 3D printing, LEGOs, and simple materials, campers design and test their fun creations.
- January 5 • The Living Lab: Biology & Chemistry Explore the living lab that is the Edison Ford Winter Estates! Campers learn about the botanical work done by Thomas Edison and Henry Ford here in Fort Myers while exploring botany, chemistry, and history.
- March 13 • Designing Fun: Game Design and Board Games • Campers delve into game design concepts and learn about the board games played by Edison and his family during leisure time. Campers work together to design a camp wide board game played by all. Chinese checkers, Chess, and other games are explored as campers learn the strategy to win.
- March 16-20 • Spring into STEAM: Robotics & Electronics Campers tackle a range of STEAM activities as they learn about robotics, code and circuits all with hands-on activities. Daily challenges include LEGO robotics, 3D design, building a jitter-bot circuit, and word-block coding.
- April 3 • Animation Creations • Campers learn about the history of film and create their own animations. Two forms of animation are explored: stop motion animation and using code-blocks to tell a story.
