 Volunteers Decorate Edison Ford Winter Estates for Holiday Nights

 FORT MYERS, Fla. (November 2, 2017) -- In preparation for the 42nd annual Holiday Nights celebration, volunteers from businesses and other organizations will participate in Decorating Days at Edison & Ford Winter Estates on November 8, 9 and 11. Edison Ford will supply period decorations from the 1880s through the 1920s and volunteers will select a theme to decorate a tree or area of one of the historic houses.

Each year the enormous undertaking of decorating Edison Ford for Holiday Nights depends on the help of hundreds of volunteers. This year's volunteer companies include the American Institute of Architects, Bennett’s Fresh Roast, Edison Park Neighborhood Association, Florida Weekly, Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce, General Electric, Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce, J. Frederick Cain Antiques, LCEC, Lee County Visitor and Convention Bureau, Norris Furniture & Interiors, Phi Alpha Theta (History Honors Society, FGCU Chapter), Sanibel Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce, Shell Point, St. James City Volunteers with the Brinson family, The Open Door Shoppes, and the Thomas A. Edison Congregational Church.Holiday Nights officially opens November 24 and runs through December 31. During this time, Edison Ford will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Opening night will commence with the traditional tree-lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. and also will feature carolers and Doug MacGregor cartooning with kids. Edison Ford is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Edison Ford has been awarded the National Stewardship Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. It is an official project of “Save America’s Treasures," a Florida Historic Landmark and a National Register Historic Site. Recently, the Edison Botanical Laboratory was designated as a National Historic Chemical Landmark.
