Exhibit opens at Edison & Ford Winter Estates

Fort Myers, FL (April 8, 2011)- The Edison & Ford Winter Estates newest exhibit, Into the Wild: Edison, Ford & Friends, will open on Sunday, April 10, 2011 in the Estates Museum.

Into the Wild: Edison, Ford & Friends chronicles the camping adventures of Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and their friends through photographs, archival materials and artifacts, including the 1918 Model T Truck that Henry Ford had specially outfitted for the trips. The exhibit features original artwork by Leoma Lovegrove reminiscent of the private scrapbook that American Naturalist John Burroughs produced in celebration of his 1916 camping trip with Edison, Ford and Harvey Firestone. The exhibit is featured in conjunction with a documentary of camping trips and explorations produced by WGCU Public Media and sponsored by the George M. Cox Trust.

WGCU Public Media will air the documentary, Into the Wild: Edison, Ford & Friends, on April 14, 16, and 18. Copies of the program are available in the Estates Museum Store. Throughout the year, the Estates will offer programs, lectures and activities relating to the exhibit.

The Estates is open daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. The Estates is the winner of the 2009 National Stewardship Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and is an official project of “Save America’s Treasures” at the National Trust for Historic Preservation, a Florida Historic Landmark and a National Register Historic Site.
