Dinosaurs are Roaming the Museum Gardens at Edison Ford
FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 8, 2016) -- The Eighth annual Art in the Gardens opens on Sunday, March 13, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Edison & Ford Winter Estates. The family event is free and open to the public.
Students and teachers from 17 Lee County schools created whimsical dinosaur sculptures, which will be on display throughout the museum gardens until April 24. The teachers are all members of the Lee Arts Educators Association. The dinosaurs were created from recycled and other materials and are all different sizes. Some of the sculptures also are interactive. One of the school groups painted a dinosaur mural with a cutout for visitors to pose for photos. Opening day activities will include a petting zoo from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., science experiments, kids crafts, music and cookies from the Winn Dixie bakery.
Over the past eight years, thousands of children and families have enjoyed Art in the Gardens and the innovative creations of students and teachers set amidst the beautiful public gardens at Edison Ford.
Project sponsors including Forestry Resources, Go Mulch and Edison Ford provided grants to teachers at the following schools: Bayshore Elementary, Colonial Elementary, Cypress Lake Middle School, Edison & Ford Winter Estates Home School, Edison Park Creative and Expressive Arts School, Lehigh Acres Middle School, Lehigh Senior High School, Mariner High School, North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts, Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School, Riverdale High School, South Fort Myers High School, St. Francis Xavier Catholic School, Tanglewood Elementary School, Tice Elementary School, Trafalgar Elementary School, Two Happy Hands Signing Academy and Varsity Lakes Middle School.
