Celebrate Henry Ford's Birthday at Edison Ford

FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 22, 2016) -- The public is invited to celebrate Henry Ford’s 153rd birthday at Edison & Ford Winter Estates on July 30. The day starts off with free birthday cake served on the museum west porch at 10:00 a.m. Highlights of the day include special tours of Ford's winter estate, a Ford Model T presentation, and photo opportunities with Clara and Henry Ford living history characters.
- Behind-the-scenes tours of “The Mangoes,” Ford’s winter estate home will be offered at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.
- Automotive curator, James Moss will give a quadricycle presentation and 1923 Ford Model T talk and demonstration at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
- Visitors can take photos with Clara and Henry Ford living history characters from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
In honor of
Ford’s birthday, active and retired Ford Motor Company employees and their
families will receive free admission, including a self-guided audio tour of the
historic homes, gardens, lab and museum.
Henry Ford and his wife Clara purchased their winter retreat in Fort Myers, next door to Thomas and Mina Edison in 1916. The purchase price was $20,000 for about three acres of riverfront gardens and a Craftsman-style bungalow. Visitors will learn more about the home and Henry Ford during the behind-the-scenes tour.
Cost: Birthday celebration with cake on the museum west porch is free. Behind-the-scenes tours of Ford's home is included in general admission of $20 (July 30 only). Free for active and retired Ford Motor Company employees and their families.
