Businesses and Volunteers Participate in Decorating Days at Edison & Ford Winter Estates

FORT MYERS, Fla. (November 10, 2015) -- In preparation for the 40th annual Holiday Nights celebration, businesses, churches, and other volunteers will participate in Decorating Days at Edison & Ford Winter Estates starting Thursday, Nov. 12 through Saturday, Nov. 14. Edison Ford will supply period decorations of the 1880s through the 1920s and volunteers will select a theme to decorate a tree or area of one of the historic houses.

Each year the enormous undertaking of decorating Edison Ford for Holiday Nights depends on the help of hundreds of volunteers. This year's volunteer companies include American Institute of Architects, Bennett's Fresh Roast, Costco, Edison Park Neighborhood Association, Edison Festival of Lights, Florida Power and Light, Florida Weekly, Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce, General Electric, Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce, Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC), Lee County Visitor and Convention Bureau, Norris Home Furnishings, Open Door Shops, Pinchers/The Marina at Edison Ford, Pure Florida, Sanibel Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce, Shell Point, St. James City Volunteers with Brinson Family, Thomas A. Edison Congregational Church, WGCU Public Media, and Winn Dixie.

One of the theme options this year include Cracker Christmas, which will utilize citrus-related items, cowboy elements, fireworks, Fort Myers area traditions and decorations made from nature. Another theme is Victorian Christmas, which will focus on traditional Victorian-era decorations, such as cotton batting and satchel bag ornaments, orchids -- Mina's favorite flower, dolls and boating items.

Holiday Nights officially opens November 27 and runs through January 3. During this time period, Edison Ford will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Opening night will commence with the traditional tree-lighting ceremony at 6:00 p.m. and also will feature the Artists and Authors Opening Night, the Naples Carolers, a visit from Santa and the Children's Tree Trail. Hot and cold refreshments will be available for purchase.
